February - 308.4 km
YTD - 587.4 km
17 Treadmill Runs
8 Outdoor Runs
3 Tack Runs
Went Ultra Long on the Track 3 times, 42.3, 50.1 and 50 km.
. Running is really quite simple for me , to run long I have to run long and to run fast I have to run fast and to run long and fast I have to run long and fast and to run really long I have to learn to run slow and eat like a horse

A Good Little Run
Friday, February 21, 2014
Y again.
Was back to the Owen Sound Y with Grant again. Logged another 50 k run more or less the same way as last week. First 4 hours at a 6:00 pace, walked 2k then ran 7k at a 7:30 pace followed by a 1k cooldown. Left heal and right hip were a bit bother sum ...nothing new or to be concerned about, that's just Ultra Running.

Made the video for the "February Challenge".
Surprise
After nearly a decade of running on the same treadmill at work someone changed it from metric to imperial measure.... 10.9 Mph sure is allot faster then 10.9 Kph! Logged 5K after switching it back to metric!

Lunch Run
Working 8am-8pm today. Didn't get a break until 4:30pm, one of those days!!!! Didn't really feel like hitting the treadmill. Was tempted to do my 5K minimum but I had 75 minutes to kill and couldn't think of a good reason not to keep going so I kept plodding along logging 10K before pulling the plug. Ditto tomorrow

A wow recovery run!
Wow because I was expecting it to be somewhat arduous but it was actually easy. Quickly geared up to a 6:00 pace , just a wee bit of left knee pain not unusual and nothing to be concerned about. Logged 5K at a mostly 6:00 pace.

Another long one at the Y
Grant and I headed to Owen Sound Y again today. 4-6 hour objective but I really wanted to get it to 50K and thats exactly what we did.
Did 6 bottles of water , 6 Gels, 8 S Caps , a handful of Gummy Worms and a few handfuls of Almonds/Cashews and some other nuts. Felt like I did everything about right as it never felt like the wheels were coming off.
Nailed the first 40K at a solid 6:00 pace as planned. I didn't need to but I decided to make things interesting and walked 2K to before picking up the pace. The feet were a wee bit sore and the when I started moving again they were allot better. Again I didn't need to but I decided to gear down to a 7:30 pace until the 48.5K mark then finish the last 1.5K walking. I really enjoyed the slower pace. I couldn't stop grinning and was totally into my music ... magical moments on the 166 meter track for sure. Walked off the last 1.5K calling it a day after doing 300 laps.
Had a really cool salt stain on my shirt ...

One more ...
One more midnight shift then its back to normal tomorrow. Jumped on the treadmill at 12:30 am and did a 10K at a mostly 5:30 pace. It was one of those runs that I just didn't get into it. GI pressure , feeling tired just would rather be running outside or another time. Anway I got er done. Repeat tomorrow + another 2K.

Fallback Pace
I am beat after yesterdays run at the Y. After I wrapped up all the stuff I needed to do at home it was sleep or jump in the Hot Tub, I choose the Tub. The 2 hour soak was fantastic, body felt recovered but I was really sleepy tired. Stated working mids this morning I briefly thought about skipping the "lunch run" and get a little 5ker in when I get up. Decided to jump on the treadmill at 2:00 am instead. It was tough getting into the Gym and even tougher getting things moving but after a couple of Ks the sleepy tired went away and the body was cooperating. Ran a pretty good Ultra pace , 7:30 min/km. Managed to get it done logging 5K in just a little over 40 minutes.

An Ultra by an oh so slim margin.
42.3K today in just a little over 4.5 hours. Ran the 166 meter track at the Owen Sound Y. The staff were very accommodating allowing me to set up an aid station. With R4K fresh in my mind I was determined to better manage today's run. Overall I did 5 bottles of water , 5 gels , 6 S Caps , a bunch of Cashews and a few gummy bears. The last 30 minutes I laid off the important things and really started to feel it near the end. I originally planned on 4 hours but things were working very well so I figured I would take it past the 42.2 mark. Grant joined me today and it was great being on the track with Mr. Speedy.... he was flying. Afterwards Grant was really hungry so we went to A&W for a Teen Burger meal with a Giant Root Beer. Great way to end our day downing a liter of pop!

Thanks Feb Challenge
If it wasn't for the Feb Challenge I would not have squeezed in a run today. Managed to fit in little 5ker outside between doing snow, configuring a PC, visiting with my son and girlfriend , fetching fired wood then another fun filled night on the slopes at Blue!
