Been away with work!

I have been on the road with work since June 1.   The first week I was away there was no time for runnign besides it was a good reset period after the 50K.

The second week of June was slightly better.  The hotel I am staying in has a decent treadmill.

Logged three 5Ks ,   June 8, 10 and 12.

I am back tomorrow and look forward to getting some trail time in and not working for a  couple of weeks.

N89 50K Trail Race - Mansfield Outdoor Center - May 31, 2025

What a great day it all came together and I had a really good 50ker.   Time wasn't all that important it was all about managing things and not fading.   The weather super helped.  I am not a fan of running in mid to upper single digit temps with a good wind to boot however it was a big part of having what I call a successful Ultra Marathon.   I ran this one in 2023,  the inaugural N89 50K, and finished in 7h25 this year it was 7h48min.  Considering that my overall volume this year has been pretty low I am quite ok with the difference.   I 100% fueled with Maple Syrup,  went through close to 400ml.  I filled a 500 ml collapsible bottle with the Syrup.   I also took a total of 4 S Caps on the last loop and I estimate I consumed about 4 liters of water.  With to cool temperatures I didn't sweat much, hardly at all only occasionally wiping my forehead.   The last 10K the temps creeped up into the double digits ...I was starting to  feel the " heat" then.   The course comprised of 2X25K loops.   Not super tough but not easy either ...its a trail.  Last few Ks of the loop had some of the greatest elevation especially the  name "Hill".    Mentally the first loop was a little tougher ,  paying attention to every Ks split,  thinking about the second lap the Ks went by rather slowly.  m I was bugging me that I kept being fixated on this my goal was to get to the second loop felling good and that's more or less what I did.   Strangely enough the second loop flew by much quicker especially in the middle.  The Ks were just melting away and my mind wandered no longer fixated on my pace and distance.    So yeah this is why I do it ,   5 hours in 2-3 to go and I was on top of the world wanting more ...more ...more.   Love what happens in a 50K.
